First Citizens Bank to shutter a Charlotte branch this fall

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — First Citizens Bank is closing a Charlotte branch later this year, according to a filing with the state’s Commissioner of Banks. The branch is at 2230 Westinghouse Blvd. in southwest Charlotte.

A First Citizens spokesperson said the closure is a business decision resulting from an ongoing assessment of its branch network. The bank has more than 500 branches across the United States, including 230 in North Carolina and 125 in South Carolina. Some larger banks, including Wells Fargo & Co. and the PNC Financial Services Group, have also been shuttering local branches as more of their customers shift to digital banking.

Raleigh-based First Citizens has closed one North Carolina branch this year in Murphy, the spokesperson said. There have been no openings in the state in 2021.
