DAVIDSON, N.C. — Firefighters in Davidson were busy for hours early Thursday morning as they battled raging flames that destroyed a 10,000-square-foot home that was under construction.

Fire crews responded to the home on June Washam Road around 2:30 a.m. and found it fully engulfed in fire.
According to the assistant fire marshal, nobody was living in the house because it was still under construction.
Channel 9 spoke with the home's builders who said the house was two weeks away from being moved into. They also said there was no gas in the house but that it was fully wired.
No other homes were evacuated and firefighters said because the home was in a new development that reaching hydrants was not an issue.
"It never threatened any of the other structures. The house was a total loss by the time we arrived," said Davidson Deputy Fire Chief Bo Fitzgerald.
It took firefighters from several different departments nearly two hours to get the fire under control.
There was a fire hydrant nearby but because the fire was so massive, fire departments had to change tactics.
“To us in the fire service, this is not so much a residential building anymore due to the size and complexity of this fire and this building, it was what we consider a commercial building,” said Ryan Monteith, deputy fire chief with the Davidson Fire Department.
They needed more water and more manpower and even then, crews were still putting out hot spots hours later.
No cause has been determined.
