Former FBI employee accused of embezzling money from agency pleads not guilty

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man who worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation appeared in court Friday charged with theft of government property.

In court prosecutors said Gus Moore could face up to 10 years.

An indictment from February accuses him of embezzling property belonging to the FBI from Aug. 2016 to Jan. 2017.

On Friday, prosecutors explained it was a credit card and accused Moore of spending $5,000 on personal items. This all reportedly happened while he worked at the FBI office in Charlotte.

Channel 9’s Brittney Johnson questioned him about the accusations outside the courthouse.

“You worked for the FBI, anything to say to people who trust that agency?”

Moore remained silent.

Prosecutors also said Moore was aware of the charge, and while they were negotiating, he took off. They said agents tracked him down in Arkansas in March.

We asked the FBI for more information about Moore’s background, like what position he held and how long he worked there.

Spokesperson, SSA John R. Ireland, responded, “ The FBI is unable to comment on or provide information regarding personnel matters because of the associated privacy interests. I can only refer you to the information that is publicly available through the court system.”

Prosecutors said Moore no longer works for the agency.

Moore pleaded not guilty and asked the judge for a jury trial. He is now out on bond.
