Former tourism organization head in trouble with law again

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The former head of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, who has been in trouble with the law in the past, was recently charged with misusing 911.

Channel 9 investigated Tim Newman after he stopped working for the CRVA but still got paid for several months.

Newman also faced a DWI charge at about that same time.

Police said the recent incident started when a woman called 911 about her ex-boyfriend.

Hit-and-run charge against former CEO dropped 

When they arrived, they saw that someone crashed a car into the victim's garage door, but no one was around.

The victim’s ex-boyfriend, Newman, arrived at the scene.

Police said Newman crawled under a stopped police car, called 911 and told paramedics he'd been hit by a patrol car and was pinned underneath.

In addition to the charge against Newman, the victim got a restraining order against him.
