Fort Mill officials announce new aquatic center for school system

FORT MILL, S.C. — Fort Mill officials announced a new, multimillion-dollar aquatic center for the town’s school system during a news conference Tuesday morning.

Officials said the project is a partnership between the Fort Mill School District, the Town of Fort Mill, Leroy Springs & Company and the YMCA.

The project was approved by voters in 2015 and is estimated to cost $9.9 million, officials said.

According to officials, the aquatic center will be an expansion of the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex at 971 Tom Hall Street. Officials said the complex will be managed by the YMCA.

In addition to a new 50-meter competition pool, gym facilities will be expanded and tennis courts will be redone at the complex, officials said.

The aquatic center is scheduled to open in 2019, according to officials.
