CHESTER COUNTY, S.C.,None — A Gastonia man with a record of drunken driving is now charged in a fatal hit-and-run.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said 34-year-old Earl Burr was driving drunk on Thursday afternoon on Interstate 77 when he hit a car being driven by 23-year-old Brennon Conklin.
Troopers think Burr hit Conklin's car, sent it off the road and into a tree. Conklin died from blunt force trauma. His passenger, 22-year-old Kimberly Sistare was injured but survived.
After the crash, troopers said, Burr sped through the median at mile marker 51 (at the Chester County-Fairfield County line) and drove away from the scene. Authorities found Burr late Thursday, arrested him and charged him with felony DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.
Eyewitness News searched Burr's criminal record and found a long list of charges against him in Gaston County, including two previous drunken driving charges.
Burr is being held at Chester County Jail without bond.
