Habitual flasher arrested for indecent exposure in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — A man who has been arrested at least a dozen times in the past four years now faces new charges Thursday morning.

Police told Channel 9 Dea Williams -- who is a sex offender -- exposed himself to a woman at a retail shopping center on Myrtle School Road in Gastonia and was arrested Wednesday.

Williams is charged with indecent exposure, and it's not the first time.

Williams just got out of prison in December for being a registered sex offender on the campus of a day care. He was on parole when he went into a dentist office Wednesday to have his teeth checked and left in handcuffs.

Williams exposed himself to a female dentist while in an examination room at Friendly Dental. She called her manager and he called 911.

"I've got a patient in the dental chair who pulled his pants down and got naked in front of my dentist," the caller said.

Only women were working in the dentist office at the time of the incident.

"I need to get an officer sent over to get him out of there please," the caller told dispatchers.

One of the workers saw him acting confronted him.

"One of my assistants told him, 'We will have none of that here,'" the worker said.

The staff searched online and learned about Williams' history.

Including the incident here, Williams was faced 12 charges for indecent exposure in the last four years at government buildings, a church and a rape crisis center.

He was convicted in eight of them and was jailed briefly for the misdemeanors. There is no habitual charge for indecent exposure.

The prosecutor begged for a higher bond in court Thursday.

"We would ask for that to be moved up to $20,000 just based on the number of charges and the number of similar charges," prosecutor Jason Meulemans said.

The judge granted that request.

Williams should be taken off parole and sent back to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence that would put him in jail for about another year.
