Homeowner displaced after flames rip through Huntersville house

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Fire investigators in Huntersville are trying to determine what caused a house to go up in flames overnight.

Firefighters were called just after midnight to the home on Poplar Tent Road, near Highway 73, and saw flames and smoke coming from the house.

The home suffered severe damage, and Channel 9 could see a large hole in the roof, as well as smoke filling the air.

Firefighters said the fire started near the back deck of the home before spreading to the kitchen and attic.

Someone was inside when the flames broke out, but officials said that person was able to make it out safely.

The American Red Cross is helping find that person a temporary place to stay.
