Hornets’ president on a personal mission to impact lives through basketball program

For 37 years, Charlotte Hornets president Fred Whitfied has poured time, resources, and experience into his annual basketball school, Achievements Unlimited, aimed at student achievement.

The experience includes fundamental basketball skills, an educational component through the game “NBA Math Hoops,” along with drug awareness education.

Each day also features at least one speaker from various career paths, including the NBA, to expose students to fields that may have never considered.

“Every year I get so energized because I see the smiles on these kids’ faces,” said Whitfield, founder of Achievements Unlimited. “Many of these kids ordinarily would not be able to attend any basketball school.”
