CHARLOTTE — The first phase of what may become a 1 million-square-foot office campus in University Research Park is well underway.

Three tower cranes are on the site of Centene Corp.’s East Coast headquarters, a lucrative economic development project for the Queen City that’s expected to come with at least 3,200 jobs over the next decade. As many as 6,000 or more jobs could ultimately land at the campus, which is being developed on a greenfield site on Governor Hunt Road in University Research Park.

Hundreds of construction crew members are on the site daily, working on the first office building as well as a 2,400-space parking garage. The 770,000-square-foot phase under construction now is expected to deliver in the second half of 2022.
