NCHP says driver was trying to elude troopers before crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three crashes on Interstate 85 in west Mecklenburg County caused delays for Thanksgiving holiday travelers Wednesday morning.

Chopper 9 was flying over the scene where one crash happened on I-85 north at Interstate 485 around 11:15 a.m.

Highway Patrol told reporter Alexa Ashwell that a driver was trying to elude troopers when he wrecked. Sources said the driver was ejected from the car.

One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three lanes of traffic were reopened around 12:05 p.m.

Traffic is backed up for miles behind the crash.

A second crash happened on I-85 south near mile marker 26 around 10:30 a.m. Officials said there were no serious injuries. The crash was cleared around 11:30 a.m.

A third crash happened near mile marker 23 on I-85 in Gaston County. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said. It was reported around 10:55 a.m.
