‘I fell in love’: NC state trooper adopts puppy found at scene of crash

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. — A puppy that was injured in a crash in North Carolina has now found its furever home -- with the same state trooper that rescued it.

According to our sister station WLOS, North Carolina state troopers Jonathan Maybin and Tony Osteen found the puppy while responding to a crash around 11 p.m. March 27 on Interstate 26.

Officials said a car crashed into a truck that was pulling a camper shell and a small dog kennel fell out of the truck.

The puppy was motionless but still breathing when the troopers found her. Osteen and Maybin said the pup whimpered when they tried to touch her so they wrapped her in a towel and took her to an animal hospital.

The puppy had a broken front leg, a broken tail, a fracture on her rear tibia and bruised lungs.

Maybin said when no one came forward to claim her, he started the adoption process and he named her Emory.

Now, Emory is healing at home with Maybin and he said she is expected to make a full recovery.
