Inmate reported missing from prison in Anson County found near facility

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — An inmate who was reported missing from the Lanesboro Minimum Correctional Facility in Anson County late Saturday night is back in custody, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Lamorris Rivers was reported missing from the facility Saturday evening. Officials said Rivers was found just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday a short distance from the facility.

No details have been released on how he escaped the facility.

Rivers was recently serving a sentence of two-and-a-half years for a conviction relating to leading police on a chase in an effort to evade arrest in 2015. In that case, according to police warrants, Rivers was intoxicated and led police on a high speed chase going speeds that topped 95 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Rivers also served time in 2010 for escaping jail in Montgomery County in 2010, according to prison records.

Rivers was one of five people arrested in connection with a 2018 home invasion in Salisbury. He is facing felony burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon charges in that case, and is due back in court on June 10. He also has several other felony drug and weapons charges outstanding on unrelated cases in Stanly and Montgomery counties.

Public records show he also escaped from jail in Montgomery County in 2010.
