ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A woman was found dead and her grandson was charged with murder Monday morning in Salisbury, Rowan County sheriff's authorities said.
The Rowan County 911 Center received a report at 5:07 a.m. of a person who needed medical assistance on Ellis Loop Road. Deputies found the caller and the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joyce Ann Trexler, 76, died from "a horrible assault," according to Rowan County Sheriff Kevin Auten.
The sheriff said grandson Curtis Trexler called 911. He was not cooperative with authorities and was charged.
Curtis Trexler's first appearance will be Tuesday morning.
Residents watched as their neighborhood turned into a crime scene.
"I watch a lot of “Criminal Minds” and a lot of CSI (shows) and that's just what it makes me think of, is the stuff that I watch all the time on TV," neighbor Stephanie Jennings said.
