CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Andrew Teachey, 20, tried to take a cellphone picture of another student while she was showering in her dorm, from under the shower door on Nov. 18, according to Johnson C. Smith University officials.
Officials said the victim threw on her bathrobe, chased after Teachey and was able to identify him to campus police.
He was arrested Tuesday and charged with misdemeanor peeping.
Campus officials said the two students did not know each other and the suspect did not live in that dorm.
He's now been banned from all residence halls except the one in which he lives.
"JCSU is a great university so we don't have this often, but I definitely believe that campus police will take care of it," student Lauren Herring said.
Some students said they had already heard about the incident, while others were shocked.
"Most of the people here are really sweet," Lauren Herring said. "That must be a student who has lost his way or something because most of the men here are very respectful, very nice."
In addition to court proceedings, Teachey is facing a judicial board hearing with the university.
