JWU freshman wins 'Showmars Showdown' culinary competition

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson & Wales University freshman Emilee Vance took home the big win at Thursday’s live culinary competition: The Showmars Showdown.

Vance, who was competing against four other culinary students, pocketed $3,500 and her winning Greek-inspired meatball recipe will be featured at Showmars restaurants next year.

“We want to provide these students with the opportunity to hone their culinary skills and show off the amazing talent at Johnson & Wales University,” said Showmars CEO Konstantine Zitsos. “We are incredibly impressed with this year’s submissions and can’t wait to feature the winning dish on our menu.”

The winning recipe was judged on creativity, taste and appearance, and chosen by a panel of fellow JWU students and judges, including Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith.
