Kannapolis police, neighbors fed up with nuisance home

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Kannapolis police are turning to social media to try and fight what they're calling a nuisance home after responding to more than 60 911 calls there in the past year.

Neighbors also said they want the renters gone.

Anchor Scott Wickersham spoke to the woman living at the home and learned why she claims she was forced to call police many of those times.

Police said calls to the home at 200 Rose Ave. included fights, weapons violations and disturbing the peace.

They posted a picture of the home on Facebook so residents would know why they are in the neighborhood so much, urging them to call if there are problems.

Plenty of neighbors have commented on the posting with some saying the tenants should be kicked out.

Jessica Simcox said she's rented that home for more than two years but has run into some problems.

She said the Facebook posts are an embarrassment.

"I've had trouble with my daughter. Sixty of those calls are missing persons calls," she said. "I was told to call by probation and (Department of Social Services."

Simcox said the police won't take her calls anymore.

"They said, 'Stop calling. We're done,'" she said.

But some neighbors said it goes well beyond problems with her children.

"All hours of the night, my husband has to call 911," said Pam Overcash.

Others have moved because of the disturbances, Overcash said.

"We've seen fights -- groups, fights, bad profanity," she said.

Overcash said she feels badly for the children inside the home but hopes they are forced to move.

Some people on Facebook asked why the renters can't be kicked out.

Police replied the process is not that easy because it has to be done through the courts and is even more complex because of the landlord-tenant relationship.
