Key witness points finger at accused murderer in triple killing

A key witness in a triple murder trial in Catawba County took the stand.

He told the jury he was with the murder suspect when they went to the home where three people were shot and killed.

Prosecutors have described the killings near Conover as "execution-style killings."

Everett Hewitt has denied killing the three people since his arrest in 2011, even turning down a plea deal.

"He did that murder,” witness Harold Propst said. “I promise to God you all"

Propst fought back tears as prosecutors played for the jury his police interview in the hours after Wade Sigmon, Susan Miller and Connie Blevins were shot to death in 2011. Propst recalled asking Everitt Hewitt why he did it.

Propst said he went to the Sheriff's Office that morning claiming Hewitt used his gun to rob and kill the three people, but Propst said he had no idea what was going to happen and never went inside the mobile home.

"If I didn't, I would most likely be going to jail," Probst said.

He also explained that he felt he had to testify when questioned if there was a plea deal in the case.

He told the jury he feared that he could be sent to jail because of the accused murderers.

More than 11,000 pages of evidence in the capital murder trial could go on for weeks.
