• Large mulch fire spreads smoke through north Charlotte


    CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte and Huntersville fire departments are on the scene of a large mulch fire on Eastfield Road Monday night.

    Smoke is visible from some distance away and north Charlotte residents are expected to detect a mild to moderate smoke odor in the air.

    Neighborhoods affected include Wallace Farms, Highland Creek, Concord Mills and the greater University area.

    The fire is controlled.
