Lightning strike caused house fire in north Charlotte, investigators say

CHARLOTTE — A fire that started at a home in north Charlotte was caused by a lightning strike, according to Charlotte Fire.

It happened Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. on Copperplate Road, a residential road off of West Mallard Creek Church Road.

Firefighters initially called a second alarm response but quickly canceled it.

Charlotte Fire said 40 firefighters controlled the blaze in 30 minutes. No one was hurt but three adults were forced to leave the home and stay with family.

After investigating, firefighters determined that a lightning strike is what caused the fire.

It’s estimated the fire caused $30,000 in damage.
