Lincoln Co. woman accused of embezzling $4K from Walmart

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Lincoln County sheriff's deputies have charged a woman with taking more than $4,000 from her employer.

Deputies say 33-year-old Meghan Black Cook of Maiden is accused of taking the money from a Walmart store in Denver (NC) over a four-month period.

Cook faces a single embezzlement charge.

Deputies say Walmart asked them to investigate a possible theft by an employee. Investigators say Cook is accused of making 51 cash refund receipts for medication that had been purchased and then keeping the receipts.

Deputies say the thefts occurred between April and July.

It was not clear if Cook has an attorney.
