CHARLOTTE — An arrest has been made after officers found a loaded gun in a student’s backpack Tuesday at South Mecklenburg High School, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
In a letter to parents, the school’s principal said a school resource officer detained the student and found a loaded gun after searching their backpack. The SRO confiscated the weapon and notified authorities.
No threats were made and nobody was hurt in the incident, the principal said.
CMPD said they made an arrest and seized the gun involved.
“Please discuss with your students the dangers of bringing weapons on campus and the serious consequences that apply to those who do so against the law and the CMS Code of Student Conduct,” the principal said.
The gun was the 12th to be found at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School this school year.
