CHARLOTTE — It’s taken longer than originally hoped, but Charlotte startup Koulomb has opened its first commercial electric-vehicle charging station in the Chestnut Arbor Shopping Center in Matthews.
Koulomb partners Jeff Constanineau and Justin Taylor had hoped to open that location last fall. But the permitting process has gone slower than expected.
Koulomb grew out of Taylor’s Pure Power Contractors, a 100-worker business based in Indian Trail. Koulomb already had a single, two-unit charger at the Pure Power office, but the Matthews station, which has four charging spots, is its first in a commercial setting.
“Our next one, just based on how the permitting is going with the local municipalities, is likely to be next month at Sun Valley Commons in Indian Trail,” with another four-charger site, Constaineau says. “In July and August, we will move forward with the Ayrsley Town Center location, a 12-station charging site with a solar canopy.”
The company has multiple additional sites in the works locally as well as plans in other markets.
