CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The holidays can be difficult for many, especially survivors of domestic violence who stay in a shelter, away from family.
Crystal Jennings, a local makeup artist, went to a shelter on Saturday to give a free makeover to victims of domestic violence.
Jennings said the biggest goal was to restore confidence in the women.

“She’s smiling, and that’s a really good thing, so I know that I’ve accomplished my goal,” said Jennings, owner of About Face Makeup.
Jennings said she was a victim of domestic violence, which was why she wanted to do something to help.
"It was a horrific experience for me,” Jennings said. “I experienced broken bones. I experienced black eyes, low self-esteem.”
The self-taught makeup artist got out of that relationship years ago.
Now, new to the Charlotte area, she wanted to give back during the holidays when many women stay in shelters.
“I thought this would be a beautiful gift for them,” Jennings said. “It’s just really an act of kindness I want to continue to keep doing for women.”
Jennings told Channel 9 this was the first time she’s done free makeovers, but she's open to doing them in other cities, too.
