Mother says man walked in on her and her child at a Rock Hill city park bathroom

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A local mother was a at a birthday party Saturday at Cherry Park in Rock Hill when she decided to take her 2-year-old to the bathroom and was horrified when a man walked into the bathroom.

She was just opening the stall door to leave and the man was standing right in front of her.

The mother, who is named Felicia and didn’t want use her last name, talked to Channel 9’s Greg Suskin about the incident.

“I was kind of scared, nervous,” Felicia said. “He didn’t say anything. Then he just walked into the empty stall next to us and went to the bathroom with the door wide open."

Felicia skipped hand washing, and left the bathroom quickly with her daughter.

“I covered her eyes,” she said.

Felicia went to a friend, who then stood outside and took pictures of the man as he walked out of the ladies room several minutes later.

They found a park employee who told them he’d call police, but didn’t. Instead, the employee confronted the man, who was still at Cherry Park with his own children.

The head of Rock Hill’s parks, recreation and tourism department, John Taylor, told Channel 9 how the man explained what happened.

“The gentleman said that he was sorry, that he had made a mistake,” Taylor said.

But Felicia doesn’t understand how that’s possible. She said signs are clearly posted and the man didn’t leave once he saw her in the bathroom, and used another stall.

“That doesn’t seem like an accident,” she said.

A friend posted the pictures of the man on a mother’s group on Facebook to alert others about the incident.

The man apparently saw the social media posts and wrote this message on Facebook:

“I’m the guy in the photo you posted. Just letting you know I’m going to the police with this, and charges will be filed. OK. Thank you.”

Rock Hill Police said no one has come to them with such a complaint.

Taylor said he didn’t hear about the incident until Monday and he called police about it Tuesday morning.

“We started looking into this from a staff standpoint, and that’s when we felt the need to get the police involved, just to make sure,” Taylor said.

Rock Hill police said Tuesday that they had just been informed about the incident, and had no additional information.

Park officials have seen the pictures taken of the man in which he appears to walk out of the women’s bathroom. They have surveillance cameras in the park, but told Channel 9 none of them showed anything that would help police in their investigation.
