CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jill Westmoreland Rose, a local prosecutor who has prosecuted many high-profile federal cases -- from violent gangs like MS-13 to trying former CIA director David Petraeus, who pleaded guilty to mishandling classified information -- is taking on a new role halfway across the world.
“My official title is Department of Justice resident legal adviser to the Middle East, the (Persian Gulf) states,” Westmoreland Rose said.
Westmoreland Rose will work with the State Department to fight crime in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
“What are the best global anti-money laundering practices that we have to use globally, and also in that same vein, what are ways that we can ensure that the flow of money globally is not being used to fund terrorist activities?” she asked.
Westmoreland Rose and her family will live in Kuwait, but she said she will still seek justice for people in North Carolina.
“I hope I'm going to be in a situation where I can take my experiences here. This is home. There is nowhere like America,” she said.
