CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Local rapper Majah is coming from behind the microphone and giving back to the community to stop the violence.
The Charlotte native is planning a "Stop the Violence, Stop the Hate" campaign, with stops in some of the city's toughest neighborhoods.
He's told Eyewitness News anchor Brittney Johnson that he has lost too many of his own friends and almost lost his life to street violence.
"I myself, I was shot and nearly killed," Mijah said.
As an entertainer and local who has walked the same streets, he believes young people will listen to his message and benefit from being linked with mentors.
"I see a lot of us men are not stepping up to the plate, giving back to the community, so I felt like it was time for me to step up," he said.
