MacKenzie Scott donates $2.3M to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas

CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte nonprofit is getting millions, thanks to philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.

Scott is donating $122.6 million to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Of that total, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas is getting $2.3 million.

The nonprofit says the funds will allow them to increase their mentoring services and will also help them serve more children in the community.

The investment in Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest donation from a single individual in the organization’s history, it said in a news release.

“We are so grateful for this transformational gift. There are over 50,000 children in our community who are facing adverse childhood experiences,” CEO Donna Dunlap said. “Their journey to success can be significantly improved through purposeful mentorship. We know this! We’ve witnessed such transformations locally! This gift will enable us to expand our ability to serve more children and provide our young people with college and career readiness support beyond high school.”
