BELMONT, N.C. — It’s been over eight years since John Church first got the Chronicle Mill property in Belmont under contract. And it’s been more than six years since he closed on the $258,000 deal in July 2013.
Now, at last, the redevelopment of the former yarn mill is set to break ground. It will do so in the second quarter.
The $45 million, adaptive-reuse project is expected to include 240 upscale apartments and 9,000 square feet of commercial space on the 7-acre site once completed. A five-story apartment building will be built on the site. The redevelopment is anticipated to conclude in the fall of 2021.
It has been a winding road for Church and his team to get to the point of beginning construction.
