Man carjacks driver at McDonald's drive-thru, leads officers on chase, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have arrested a man they said carjacked another man late Wednesday night at a north Charlotte McDonald’s.

Officers said the crime happened around 10:30 p.m. at the restaurant on Beatties Ford Road at Interstate 85.

Manesseh Jones told detectives that he was in the drive-thru when Gregory Fondren pointed a gun at him and demanded his car.

"He was right in the crack of my window," Jones said. "Telling me, ‘to get out of the car before I pop one on you.’"

A short time later, officers spotted that car and said Fondren, 20, led them on a chase before hitting another car on Central Avenue near Rosehaven Drive.

Fondren sped away again but police said he pulled into the parking lot of the QT on Central Avenue at Sharon Amity Road and jumped out of the car, along with two other people, and tried to run away.

Officers quickly detained all three men, charging Fondren with robbery. The other two people in the car have not yet been charged with any crimes.

Investigators told Channel 9 they found two BB guns in the car.
