Man charged after van crosses double yellow lane, kills motorcyclist

CHARLOTTE — One person died after his motorcycle was hit on North Tryon Street early Saturday morning.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Jessie Garza was driving a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle when a white Dodge Caravan crossed over the double yellow lane divider into Garza's lane.

The Dodge hit the motorcycle head-on. As a result of the crash, a Toyota RAV4 traveling southbound behind the motorcycle swerved to avoid the collision. The RAV4 drove into the northbound lanes and stopped.

The motorcycle then struck the stopped RAV4 on the right rear tire, according to police.

Garza was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the collision. The other drivers involved in the crash were not injured.

Jorge Jimenez-Feliz, who was driving the Dodge, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. He is in custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff.

Alcohol and speed were not factors in this crash, police said.
