Channel 9 spoke with Alex Coggins. He came to Carowinds last Friday with his wife and kids. They had a great time, so he came back the next day with his wife and friend, but this time, he said they got attacked.

Coggins and his family gets season passes to Carowinds, but what happened last weekend has shaken him.

“We're headed to our vehicles and that's when my friend got punched in the face,” he said.

On Monday, Channel 9 received cellphone video of what deputies described as a large fight in the Carowinds parking lot on Saturday night. Coggins said they were randomly attacked by teens he didn't know.

“It was like something off of a movie. It was crazy. It was a lot of people. I honestly thought that a riot would break out,” he said.

Other people have reached out to Channel 9, saying there were also fights and rowdiness inside the park.

The parent of an employee said her son was punched but not seriously hurt. Park officials say they dont know of any incidents inside the park.

Channel 9 asked Carowinds officials repeatedly if there were any changes made to security since the fights last weekend.

“We have a blend of plain clothes and uniformed officers inside the park but to talk about specifics about that would lessen our effectiveness,” a representative said.

Park officials said there are double the number of security staff during the Scarowinds season, compared to the summer.

Coggins said he feels like it wasn't enough.
