Man shot to death in southwest Charlotte is city’s 7th homicide in past week

CHARLOTTE — Police are investigating after a 23-year-old man was found shot to death in southwest Charlotte, the city’s second homicide of Thursday evening, and seventh in the past week.

The latest shooting happened just before midnight on Bramblewood Drive at Shadowcrest Drive, near South Tryon Street and Arrowood Road.

Police said a homeowner heard gunshots just before midnight, saw the victim in their yard and called 911.

When officers got to the scene they found Andrew McCullough in the yard. They said he had been shot several times. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

No arrests have been made.

Channel 9 crews could see crime scene investigators and officers trying to piece together what happened as they search for whoever pulled the trigger.

The homicide happened just hours after someone shot and killed a teenage boy along Ashley Road in west Charlotte. That crime happened just before 6 p.m. in a busy area, near a Walmart.

In both cases, investigators are hoping people come forward with information that could put the shooters in jail.

Police told Channel 9 there’s a much bigger problem in the city, and everyone has to step up to help.

“Enough is enough,” said CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler when speaking to reporters at the Ashley Road scene. “We have to say that this has got to stop, OK? None of us should be here right now. I should not have a juvenile victim standing behind you in a crime scene who was pronounced deceased because of a gunshot wound.”

Earlier this week, the new police chief, Johnny Jennings, begged for the violence to stop while on the scene of yet another homicide.
