Deputies: Suspect arrested after man found shot, killed in wrecked car in Rowan County

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Rowan County detectives have arrested a man for the June 9 murder of 28-year-old Edward Geouge III.

Deputies began investigating after they found a wrecked car on June 9 on Saw Road near China Grove.

They found Geouge partially outside the overturned car. Officials confirmed he was dead at the scene.

The next day, as the medical examiner was examining the body, they learned that Geouge died from a gunshot wound. According to deputies, they began to investigate Geouge’s death as a homicide.

Deputies arrested Rene Gomez, Jr., 31, who was already in jail for a failure to notify of sex offender address change. He was additionally charged with Geouge’s murder and is being held with no bond.
