CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was killed in east Charlotte late Thursday night after police said he stepped out in front of a car.
The collision happened just before 11 p.m. on The Plaza near Atmore Street.
Police said 50-year-old Brian Cathey stepped off the curb and into the path of a Subaru Impreza. The driver of the car immediately stopped and called 911.

When officers got to the scene, they found Cathey lying on the curb with his legs in the roadway. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives said the driver wasn't speeding or impaired, and no charges have been filed.
The crash remains under investigation.
