WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — A man in Watauga County made a frantic call to 911 after finding three men had broken into his home.
He held all three intruders at gunpoint until sheriff's deputies arrived minutes later.
It was a pastor who called the homeowner in Vilas after spotting the men going into the basement of the home.
The three men from Tennessee are charged with breaking and entering. Deputies said when they arrived the owner had a shotgun trained on the trio and was determined not to let them get away.
Channel 9 played the 911 audio for Amanda Matheson, who lives nearby. She supports what the homeowner did.
"I think it's pretty awesome. If I found somebody in my house, I’d try to keep them there,” she said.
Others aren't so sure.
Mario Alcarez, who lives right next door, said he is glad the trio were caught but isn't sure he would get into a confrontation.
"Just never seen anyone do that. Never thought anyone would be able to do that. I would be scared to do that,” he said.
The sheriff is glad the men are in custody and for the help of the caller but he too warns people to exercise caution and not get hurt.
