Man on Mass. Most Wanted List accused in Charlotte kidnapping

A man on Massachusetts Most Wanted list is also wanted in Charlotte in the robbing and kidnapping a woman at a local motel while he was on the run from authorities in Massachusetts.

Police in Southbridge, Massachusetts, said Gregory Lewis, 26, cut off his electronic monitor on Sep. 15 and took off.

Eight days later, police said he was in Charlotte, where they said he robbed a 29-year-old woman from Statesville at a motel on Yorkmont Road.

“I met him on Plenty of Fish, a dating website,” the woman told Eyewitness News Thursday.

She said that Lewis used a different name on the dating site and told her he lived in Charlotte.

Forty-five minutes after they met at the motel, she said it became clear that he was after more than friendship.

“He put me in a choke hold and put handcuffs on me with my hands behind my back and said I'm not going to hurt you I just want your money,” she said.

She told Lewis she had money in her car, he took off the handcuffs and they walked out to her car.

When she saw two men walking nearby, she said she screamed and Lewis ran away.

She said she didn’t know who she was dealing with until detectives told her several days later.

“I was really scared. I've never been put in a choke hold like that,” she said.

Detectives in Charlotte have signed warrants charging him in the robbery and kidnapping.

Police in Massachusetts said Lewis was back there two days after the attack, when he allegedly handcuffed and assaulted his stepfather before disappearing again.

The following day a surveillance camera captured images of Lewis at a convenience store in Vermont.
