Woman shot while driving on I-85 when man opened fire into car, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a man shot into a car Thursday evening in northwest Charlotte, hitting a 23-year-old woman before driving away.

The woman said she was traveling on Interstate 85 southbound and getting off at Brookshire Boulevard when a man in a black pickup truck shot into the car.

Officers said the woman pulled into a Mobil gas station off Brookshire Boulevard and called 911. The manager at B&K Gas and More said the victim never made it inside the business, calling 911 from the parking lot.

She was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police said she was struck by one round.

“Number one, I’m glad the service station is here where she can get some help but I think it is real sad that you’re driving and then you get shot," customer Devon Furtick said.

No arrests have been made at this point.
