Man wanted in Iredell County murder arrested in Georgia

Tyrell Dontaye Daniels

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies said a man wanted in an Iredell County murder was arrested on Wednesday in Georgia.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Tyrell Dontaye Daniels -- aka “Lil Buckey” -- was arrested in Cobb County, Georgia on a murder warrant.

Deputies said the warrant was issued after Zion Treyshun Gaither was killed in a shooting on June 8, which happened near Williams Road in Statesville. According to the sheriff’s office, information and tips led detectives to Florida and Georgia.

Daniels is currently being held in the Cobb County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Iredell County for murder.

“I am very happy this murder is in custody, and also happy the officers, and deputies involved in locating, and arresting him are safe because he has made threats of using violence against law enforcement officers in the past,” Sheriff Darren Campbell said.

Deputies said Daniels has a criminal history which contains convictions for: misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree trespassing, felony first-degree burglary, felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury, three counts of misdemeanor communicating threats, felony failure to appear on a felony charge and two counts of misdemeanor assault.
