Man wanted for questioning in Tennessee murder leads Avery County deputies on chase

Person of interest led police on high speed chase

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — A man wanted for questioning in a murder in Tennessee led the Avery County Sheriff’s Office on a high speed chase Wednesday night.

Deputies said the Carter County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division in Tennessee asked for help from Avery County in a high-speed chase. They said a vehicle they were pursuing was heading into Avery County.

Deputies said 23-year-old Jacob Marley was driving on U.S. Route 19E when Avery County deputies laid spike strips in the road to deflate his tires.

The chase continued onto Blevins Creek Road until Marley crashed the vehicle, jumped out, and ran into the woods, according to the Avery County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they found him a quarter mile away from the vehicle.

No one was hurt in the crash, deputies said.

Several agencies helped take the suspect into custody.

Jacob Marley was taken to the Avery County jail and charged with felony speeding to elude arrest. He was placed on hold for the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
