Many high school football players deciding to skip senior season

CORNELIUS, N.C. — As students, parents and coaches have now had a few days to digest the news that fall sports in North Carolina are being pushed back, people are seeing how it will really affect athletes, especially seniors.

Channel 9 learned Wednesday that high school football now won’t start until February in North Carolina. Because of that, many top players are opting to go on to college early and miss their senior season.

“‘Go completely early’ was the goal since day one. So I knew when I had the opportunity. I felt like I was going to miss my teammates, my coaches, because of all the stuff they did for me the last few years, but I knew deep down inside this was a business decision I had to go make,” Hough cornerback Mario Love Jr. said.

>> In the video at the top of the page, Channel 9′s DaShawn Brown spoke to players who said that their decisions are about a whole lot more than just themselves.
