Meck County Board of Elections to count votes in 26th District Court Judge race

Cecilia Oseguera and Keith Smith Cecilia Oseguera and Keith Smith are running for Seat 18 in the 26th District Court Judge race.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — Friday is a big day for the Cecilia Oseguera and Keith Smith primary race; they are running for seat 18 in the North Carolina 26th District Court Judge race.

The race is a Mecklenburg County-wide race and a Democratic primary. That means all Democrats and unaffiliated voters who chose the Democratic ballot participate in the election.

Currently, 59 votes separate Oseguera and Smith. Oseguera is in the lead.

On Friday evening, the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections will meet to count at least 636 votes. The BOE does not have a breakdown as to how many of these votes are Republican and Democrat.

The votes being counted Friday are mail-in ballots and provisional ballots. It is possible a few more votes will be added throughout the day, but for now, at least 636 will be run through the tabulator.

There are also 43 provisional ballots that may be counted in the future. These were same-day registration voters, but they did not have proof of name and current address. If those individuals bring that proof to the BOE by noon next Thursday -- it doesn’t even have to be an ID but it can be a bill -- their votes will count.

This is a developing story. Check back with wsoctv.com for updates.
