The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners named Kenneth Joyner the new tax assessor at its meeting on Tuesday.
Joyner is a former tax administrator and most recently a lecturer at the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Joyner began his assessing career in 1993 in Harnett County as a residential appraiser. Since then, he has served as tax administrator for Chatham, Onslow and most recently, Durham counties.
Joyner's first day on the job will be Oct. 1. His annual salary will be $150,000.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — He will be responsible for making sure refunds get to thousands of homeowners who were overcharged after their property was overvalued.
