MEDIC holds emergency demonstration event for students

CHARLOTTE — Real-life emergency situations were put on display Saturday at Central Piedmont Community College.

Healthcare and fire responder program students learned the step-by-step process MEDIC goes through as they held a response demonstration event.

Scenarios such as an overturned bus and bomb squad operations were put into action.

Liz Shinkle, a paramedic intern, is grateful for the opportunity to get real-world experience.

“Just being provided the opportunity, especially after COVID, which kind of shut down so many real-life scenarios, which were so important in emergency services, experience makes all the difference,” Shinkle said.

For Tyler Gentle, Saturday was a glimpse of the action he hopes to take part in one day.

“Before today, I’ve never really seen it in action and how it all worked, so you can read about it and watch videos, but whenever you see it in person, that’s when it really comes together,” Gentle said.
