CHARLOTTE — A person was killed Thursday night after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross Statesville Road in north Charlotte.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded around 9:15 p.m. to the 5400 block of Statesville Road, where they found 34-year-old Keith Diontaquawn Blanks unresponsive in the roadway.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse, however, was not injured.
The preliminary investigation indicates Blanks was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck.
Detectives said the driver showed no signs of impairment, and investigators do not believe speed or impairment contributed to the crash.
