CLOVER, S.C. — A member of the Clover town council has been charged with driving under the influence.
Wesley Spurrier, 50, was arrested by South Carolina Highway Patrol Thursday night.
Officers were called to a crashed car at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Clinton Avenue. Once they got there, they saw a woman walking away from the car.
According to police, the woman was Spurrier’s wife and she said he had walked away from the car after the crash. She said they had been drinking at a restaurant and got in an argument on the way home.
That’s when Wesley Spurrier drove through a stop sign, ran over a sidewalk and crashed into a yard, authorities said.
The couple’s daughter later walked to the scene and said she had talked with her father and that he was headed home. Police then went behind the house and found Wesley Spurrier hiding in the woods.
He was then taken into custody and charged with DUI.
The town said they don’t have a statement regarding his arrest at this time.
