Mild temps, tight security greet Super Bowl-goers

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — (AP) With mild weather settling over the New York region, fans and organizers can now focus on the Super Bowl itself rather than wonder about snow on the first cold-weather, outdoor version of the game.

The gates opened Sunday at MetLife Stadium and fans streamed in under temperatures in the upper 40s and even low 50s.

Security at the stadium was ramped up for the game. Media members went through airport-style security pat downs and had their bags inspected by explosives-sniffing dogs.

Organizers are describing it as the first "mass-transit" Super Bowl because of its site in a densely populated region. Parking is limited to ticketholders, at $150 per space. Extra trains are running from New York and New Jersey.

Fans riding the rails also will submit to airport-style security screening.
