MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Town of Mooresville is set to meet Tuesday to discuss the future of its mayor.
The meeting comes months after commissioners issued a vote of no confidence in Mayor Chris Carney, urging him to resign.
Records show the Town of Mooresville paid more than $83,000 to prevent the release of a video from October 2024. That video reportedly shows the mayor without pants late at night inside Mooresville Town Hall with a woman.
Carney has been under scrutiny since lawsuits were filed by former employees alleging that they were improperly terminated for reporting the incident. The former employees say the video shows Carney undressed in the town hall with a woman who was contracted by the town to do communications work.

In April, the town appealed a judge’s order forcing it to release the video. The case is now in the hands of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Back in April, Channel 9 sat down with Mayor Chris Carney and asked him if he had any plans to resign. He declined.
Carney claimed his pants were off because he got sick from a bad reaction to medication and vomited on himself.
He says he has no plans to run again in 2027.
