More people are experiencing homelessness in York County than last year

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Volunteers in York County last week conducted a Point-in-Time Count of its homeless population.

There have been 260 people identified who are experiencing homelessness so far, officials said Tuesday.

Results are still being calculated so that number could rise.

That number is 8% higher than last year.

Officials also say a lot of them are trying to find jobs but can’t.

They say they also ran into more people who are homeless after fleeing domestic violence situations.

A full report from that point in time count will be available this spring.
