Morganton man faces child sex charges; Homeland Security involved

MORGANTON, N.C. — A Morganton man is facing child sex charges after Burke County deputies and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security searched his home Thursday.

John Coburn, 70, is charged with statutory sexual offense with a child by an adult and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

A search warrant was executed at his home on Beech Bluff Drive. Authorities said that information gathered during the search lead to Coburn’s arrest. Officials have not said what they found inside his home.

Coburn is being held at the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $100,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
